She was born on May 1, 1928 in Lares, Puerto Rico, to her parents, Juan Diaz and Fidela Gonzalez. Alejandrina and Agustin knew each other from childhood and with time their love for each other grew and eventually married at 23 years old, on June 9, 1951. They had eight children, four were born in New York and 4 in Puerto Rico. Alejandrina took care of her mother who was bedridden for seven years as she also raised her eight children. Her children never ate at McDonalds, Burger King or Wendys. For her, it was a privilege that she could cook a homemade meal for them every day with great love. She enjoyed taking family trips with her husband, her children, her sister Ada (Iluminada) and her family to Bear Mt, Seven Lakes Park and Central Park always making great memories. She always visited her siblings and their families, creating a family bond.
In Brooklyn, her children surprised her by celebrating her silver 25th anniversary with close friends and family. In Florida the children once again surprised her by celebrating her 35th Coral anniversary at the house. Then we celebrated her 40th anniversary in a Rose Garden and her 45th anniversary at home. And the Golden 50th anniversary was a gala event, at the Westin Hotel, with live music, an amazing place with a spectacular view. Our mother looked so beautiful like a bride at her wedding. Her 55th and 60th wedding anniversaries were also celebrated at home.
She always had a Christ centered mind, always putting God first. She participated in street services and attended the Billy Graham crusades at Madison Square Garden with her family. She was a Sunday School Teacher in the 1960s at Carlton Avenue Church in Brooklyn with a Pentecostal environment.
She was the best cook, making all great meals at home. The children would ask “What’s for dinner mami? And she was famous for responding in English, Rice and Beans and Tru Tru Tru!!
She was a talented seamstress making beautiful dresses for her girls. She was a virtuous woman, a dedicated wife, a sacrificial mother, an amazing daughter, a good sister, and aunt. On April 13, 2013, her beloved husband went to be with the Lord. We will always remember her beautiful smile, her love, and her disposition to serve all those that entered her home.
God had been preparing the hearts of her loved ones for her passing. As her daughter in law Teresa began to speak in tongues the Lord spoke these words three times, “My daughter, I am waiting for you. Come.” After conveying this request a second time the room was filled with a song of praise to GOD: I love you, I love you, I love you, you are the Rose of Sharon to me. I love you, I love you, I love you and someday your face will I see. At that instance she went to be with the Lord.
Today she enjoys the presence of her Lord with those who have gone before her: She is preceded by her parents, her husband, Agustin Jimenez Colon, her son; José Luis Jimenez, her grandson; Manuel “lito” Vera, her siblings, José Diaz, Juan Diaz, Maria Diaz de Soto, Ana Diaz de Valentin, Felix Diaz y Antonio Diaz.
