Willie Eugene “Poppy Gene” Hudson left this earthly home to go to his eternal home on Sunday, January 9, 2011.
Gene was born on April 20, 1930 in Butler, Oklahoma. He was raised by his Aunt Vivian and Uncle Albert Hudson. Venus Hudson, DeWayne Hudson, and Leroy Hudson were Gene's “sister and brothers.”
Gene graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, Oklahoma in 1949 and immediately joined the 45th Division of the Army National Guard. In 1953 Gene was honorably discharged from the army after a tragic accident in which Gene broke his neck. Gene spent his life testing soil for the Army Core of Engineers. He oversaw many dam projects in Oklahoma, Arizona and in Texas.
Aileen Marie Head-Hudson captured Gene's heart . Aileen and Gene were married in June of 1956 and remained happily married for 44 years before Aileen's passing in 2000. Although Aileen and Gene never had children of their own, they thought of Kenneth and Georgia Napper's children as their own children. George Napper, Dana Napper and Karen Biel were dearly loved and spent lots of time with their “fun parents” Gene and Aileen Hudson.
Shortly after Aileen's passing, Gene moved to Oklahoma to help care for his “Mother,” Vivian Hudson until her passing in 2004.
Shortly before Vivian Hudson's death a set of twins were born to Gene's great-nephew, Kenneth Biel. Kaden and Kirsten Biel stole Gene's heart-he loved spending time with them! When Vivian passed away, Gene quickly got back to TX to spend with family and help out with Kaden and Kirsten. Shortly after Gene moved to TX another set of twins were born to his great-nephew, Kenneth again. Abigail and Allison once again, stole Gene's heart. Gene enjoyed helping his great-nephew and his family with daily tasks. Kenneth Biel's family is richly blessed for having “Poppy Gene's” willing hands and heart of service.
In June of 2010 Gene was diagnosed with cancer. Gene was determined to fight the cancer, but gave up his fight in January 2011.
Gene leaves behind his brother & wife DeWayne and Carol Hudson of Clinton, OK, Sister-in-Law & husband Kenneth and Georgia Napper of Garland, a nephew & his wife George and Becky Napper of Garland, a niece Dana Napper of Garland and another niece & husband David and Karen Biel of Allen. Great Niece Wendy Shaw of Arlington, TX, great-niece and husband Chuck & Teresa Hall of Garland, TX, great-nephew & wife Kenneth and Karla Biel of Huachuca City, AZ and great-nephew & wife Daniel and Kristina Biel of Corinth, TX. As well as 11 great-great nieces and nephews.
