Cremation Rites will be accorded. Private family graveside service will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston, Texas at a later date, where he will be laid to rest with his parents.
Thomas was born on October 2, 1946 in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He was the oldest child of his parents Bill and Inez (Hayes) Phillips.
He grew up in Beeville, Texas and graduated from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville.
He studied at Schreiner University in Kerrville, Del Mar College in Corpus Christi and the University of Texas at Austin.
Tom attended church at Beeville First Methodist Church and Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston.
His working career took him to Dresser Industries, scheduling pilots of Eastern Airlines and worked in the business office at the Metropolitan Operate (MET) in New York where he retired.
Following his retirement, Thom was a nanny for a large family in New Jersey for many years.
He was a very vocal advocate for the fine arts - especially the symphonic and operate companies.
Thomas enjoyed traveling not only by air, but by train and frequently traversed the US by train as recently as 2020.
Thomas is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Inez Phillips.
He is survived by his younger brother Bill Phillips and his wife Cathy of Lucas, Texas.
Their children Elizabeth and Clayton, three nieces and numbers cousins and their families scattered across Texas and the US.
The family would like to express their appreciate to the staff at Garnet Hill Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing and Heart to Heart Hospice in Wylie, Texas.
