Only today I just learned of Steve's passing from Kurt Schoppe at Ericsson. That's Steve and Kurt playing foosball at Ericsson on June 11, 2009. I didn't work in Steve's group, but we played foosball at Ericsson quite frequently (maybe too much) 10+ years ago. The game wasn't just about winning but also about trying to make the opposing team lose 10-0. In such a case the losing team had to "crawl" under the table. Steve was loved much, as he potentially had to crawl more than others. Some of the guys used to play pro so it was challenging but fun for everyone. We liked to yell and taunt each other with various jokes and insults. I'm very saddened to learn the reason I hadn't seen him in a long while at Ericsson was due to his going to rest in Jesus. He was loved by his family and his colleagues.

I meet Steve in the 5th grade and we became really good neighborhood friends.  We were always playing outside,  if it was tackle football in the front yard, playing baseball in the field behind the townhouse, or playing basketball. 
What I remember most about our friendship is:  Steve, Grant, Knox, and I were the early version of the  “Wild Hogs” on our motorcycles.  We would ride miles along the side of the greater Harris county bayou’s.  Trying to find a really good dirt mound and see who could jump the highest.  During the rides, we would take a break at  7-11.  Fill-up our motorcycles for .75 cents, get a snack, and then play a serious game of pinball.  We always had a great time during those great summer days. 


I remember the first time I met him at work, I was new in his group and there was a meeting where everybody was talking and giving opinions about how to do things, Steve was just observing them, then I asked him "Steve, have you done this before", he replied "Yes, and it works how I have done it!", everything went silent, we heard Steve, we trusted Steve and the discussion was over.

Steve and I used to talk about sports too, he told me how difficult was for his son to make it to the basketball team, but how hard he worked, he was so proud of his sons!  he IS so proud of his sons!

I worked with Steve at Ericsson.  He was a great friend and a mentor. He was always willing to help others. I've learned a great deal from him.  His dedication and professionalism were simply impeccable. I still remember doing my last maintenance with him which lasted for 15 plus hours. We will miss you Steve.

I worked with Steve for many years at Ericsson. He was a great colleague and friend. I loved his humor and his matter-of-fact approach to things. He was always willing to help if something needed to be done and always willing to share his wisdom, whether on a technical matter or something not work related. Our group at work got a lot smaller with his passing and he will be missed.

Steve has been a wonderful colleague of mine since several years. He was a very helpful, credible and an empathetic person. Never missed to say hello as he walked by my desk every morning. Our team feels a deep emptiness in our hearts at the thought of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Steve’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. I hope that you'll will find healing and peace in the months ahead!

Steve was a friend and a colleague at Ericsson.  We've worked on the same program for years and spent a lot of nights together on code rollout activities. Steve was always willing to step-in and help whenever needed, day or night,  and was highly respected by everyone he worked with. We shared a mutual love of playing sports and being involved in our kids sports.  He was so proud of his boys and their accompishments with basketball!  

Steve will be dearly missed by his entire Ericsson family.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family!

Dear Kendall Family,

I have read the memories that have been posted and only wish I could have gotten to know all of you so much better.  What a wonderful family!  I do remember one morning when I started backing out of my driveway only to run smack dab into my electronic wood gate that had not fully opened.  I jumped out of the car, walked into the alley way and there was Steve.   He told me he heard the loud crack and was glad to see I was fine.  I did want to let you know that Bob and I contributed  to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society a short while ago but somehow I missed the place to donate in Steve's name.  We pray for God's peace that passes all understanding to remain with you all the days to come.

My sincere condolences to Steve's family and friends.

Steve was a friend and a colleague to me. I first met Steve at Ericsson, when i joined as an intern. Steve was the favorite person among the Intern group. We used to have nice and long chats with him, in the corridor and during our software rollout at night. He had a good sense of humor and very open nature. Steve's passing has left a shock and sadness in me. Steve will be missed and his memories will remain for long times to come. My deepest sympathies to Steve's family and friends.

I attended high school with Steve ( a grade younger), and even during those younger years when we were all still trying to find our way and many times act in our own self interest, that was not the case with Steve as I observed many times he placed other people's needs before his own.   He was humble and selfless back then, I can only imagine how much more of a Giver he became 

May God continue to breath His love into you Steve and your wife and sons and all of your family and loved ones

Steve was my colleague at Ericsson. What was special about Steve was his humility and generosity. He never hesitated to help and always had smile on his face. His wry humor and sharp wit made every interaction with him enjoyable. Steve you will be missed buddy!!

Steve  is loved by all, and his smile, his laughter, his love for family and friends will be missed.

Steve was kind and welcoming. He cared about others and was generous with his time and expertise - he was knowledgeable about a lot of things. He was a good husband to Roseann. He was a good father to Anthony and Nicholas and gave them the right start in life.

Steve bore his illness and treatment with a strength that is an example to us all. He never complained, always reporting that he was not feeling too bad. Most of the time he continued to work.

Steve was good company. He had well considered opinions on many subjects. He was quick to smile and had a keen sense of humor, usually directed at himself.

We will miss him greatly.

I met Steve at Ericsson while working in the same program.  He was hard working and  unselfish;  always willing to support our late night deployments and troubleshooting sessions.   He was always calm and easygoing.   We struck up an immediate friendship and regularly discussed basketball since we both had boys who played competitively.  He was my go to source for great basketball camps.  Steve’s love and pride for his sons was evident.  Steve will be greatly missed by his Ericsson work family.   Deepest sympathies to immediate and extended family. RIP Steve. 

Steve has always been a calm, cool, collected person. Never got hysterical or extreme. Which is a good quality. Always a bit circumspectful. Steve and I had a kinship for 80s punk rock, Iggy pop, Bowie, basketball, a respect for good music, whatever genre. It could be 60s bossa nova, 70s soul, even hair metal. He felt lucky and blessed to have a wife and family that he loved, cherished, an respected. His sons Anthony and Nick made him very proud  basketball proteges. Anthony made him proud with what he has accomplished and smooth nature; Nick the same though he tested Steve a bit more with a bit more rambunction. Will miss the the Lee Harveys nights with Steve. Condolences to Roseanne and the boys. Steve is Resting in true Peace.

Steve and I were colleagues at Ericsson for a long time. We met playing pickup basketball games at lunch. He was a good player and a great sport. Later we would actually work together and whenever we met we eventually ended up talking about our kids and parenting. I had girls and he had boys but we had sports and a Catholic education in common. We went through a lot of the same experiences with our kids and compared notes all of the time. It was clear he loved his boys and was very proud of them. He was a great role model. I will miss him. My deepest sympathies to Roseann, Anthony, and Nicholas.

I'm truly sorry to hear the news of Steve's passing.  My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

I grew up with Steve in Alief.  It's been decades since our paths last crossed.  I'll always remember learning to drive with him at his great grandfather's ranch in Anson, Texas along with joy of two young boys running around the ranch exploring.  His sense of humor was unsurpassed.

I will always cherish the great memories of our shared childhoods.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Steve’s passing.  I had the pleasure of coaching our boys with Steve for several years as we watched them grow up together.  We had a lot of great times from coaching,  relaxing, hanging in the stands watching the boys play or just being friends.  Our thoughts and prayers are with Roseann, Anthony and Nick in this difficult time.  We’ll miss you Steve!

I am very sorry to hear the news of Steve’s passing. He was such a great guy. Our boys, Joe and Nick, played basketball together as kids and it was lots of fun. Steve was as solid a guy and family man as you could ever ask for. Condolences to Roseanne, Nick and Anthony, the extended Kendall family, and to all that knew Steve. 

I first met Steve in the early 90's through mutual friends.  He was a very good guitar player. The best of us to be honest. We formed a ragtag group of guys who loved music. We all would meet every Friday and play on the street at the West end.  Beatles was the band of choice, and Steve knew them all!  When others forgot a chord, Steve would save us.  Steve was also a great basketball player.  I remember him competing in the hoop it up contests and doing very well! I was so happy for Steve when he married Roseanne and had the kids.  I will miss My friend Steve very much. I will always cherish the great times we had. Rest in peace my friend!

Steve and I went to school together in Alief.  Steve was always a quiet guy with a sense of humor.  Some of my fondest memories are sitting in the Elsik cafeteria, squeezed together at one table and laughing with others.  I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.  My prayers are with the family during this time.

Will always cherish the four years of watching the boys play basketball together with Steve and enjoying those games so much more because of Steve’s friendship. Great father, husband and friend. RIP Steve.
