Rashida Walker, age 50, a resident of Aubrey, Texas, entered eternal rest on December 13, 2023. She was born in Wichita, Kansas, on January 10, 1973, to her parents, Arthur and June Doxey, and her adopted father, Eora Walker. During her childhood, she enjoyed visiting her cousin Shannon Scott, attending family gatherings at her grandparents' farm, picking strawberries with Grandpa Brown, playing with her pet pig Wilma, and watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Rashida's dream of being a spectator at the parade came true during her high school years when she was selected to participate on the cheerleading squad in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, an experience she treasured throughout her life. She graduated from Perry High School and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Apparel Merchandising from Oklahoma State University. An avid shopper, she turned her passion into a profession, working for some of the stores she loved to shop. Her final place of employment was Michaels, where she served as an Associate Global Sourcing Manager.
Cooking was one of her passions. At the age of 5, her son Weston said she was the best cook in the world. Her nephew Coller, aged 4, would send her his Thanksgiving and Christmas menu by February each year.
Rashida was an exceptional fur-mom to her pets, Spooky and Mhysa. She never realized they were in control of her. Her other passions included dining out, traveling, and socializing with friends and family. Celebrating her birthday in Paris, France, with three wonderful friends, Becky, Fran, and Mariechia was an experience she described as incredible and one she would forever cherish.
She was preceded in death by her fathers, Arthur Doxey and Eora Walker; maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Dora (Lancaster) Brown; and paternal grandparents, Gerald and Elizabeth (Atkinson) Doxey, along with a host of other relatives. She is survived by her son Weston Simmons, mother June, sisters Amica, Qiana, and Tiara, and brothers Arthur II (Monica) and Fount. Nephews and nieces: Lavontay, Rayne, Coller, Natalee, and Braxton.
The family extends their gratitude to Orlando Brown, Gerri Parker, Faye and Michael Thomas, Phyllis Atkinson, J.D. Brown, and family for their acts of kindness throughout Rashida's lifetime. Special thanks also go to Cami Conrad McDonald, the Conrad family, Jeroid Johnson, G. Johnson, Stephanie Daniels-Jackson, Galia Fisher, Bill Hamilton, Jimmy Jimenez, Sondra Hardy, Fran and Oscar González, Becky and Pedro Bass, Supun Walpole, all co-workers, and friends for the incredible friendship Rashida received from each of you.
Rashida will be remembered for her acts of kindness, genuine smile, and willingness to say what was on her mind.
