She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and wife of 62 years to her husband Dr. Douglas Bellamy. She is survived by him and their daughters, Paige Bellamy Priddy and Heather Bellamy Shea, son-in-law
Jonathan Shea, and grandchildren Zach Priddy, Kaitlin Shea, and Lindsey Shea. She also leaves behind
her brother, Rocky Thompson and his wife, Netha of Lufkin, Texas and their family.
She was predeceased by her parents as well as her sister Karen Thompson Burton Metteauer of Lufkin, Texas.
She grew up in West Texas before moving to East Texas as a teen, graduating from Lufkin High School in 1959. She met her husband that summer, and they married in June 1960 in Lufkin, Texas. They attended Jacksonville Baptist College together before transferring to Stephen F. Austin University where they graduated with B.S. degrees in January 1963.
She taught high school English in Houston, Liberty and Mesquite, and taught biology at Skyline High School in Dallas. She later became a home school coordinator for Dallas ISD and taught freshman English at Texas A&M University-Commerce in Commerce, Texas, where she had earned a master’s degree in English and was in the English doctoral program.
She also served as a church pianist for most of her life, first for several churches where her father preached, then in churches pastored by her husband.
She and Doug went on to earn doctorate degrees in Counseling and Psychology from Texas A&M University-Commerce, graduating in 1979. The Bellamys were licensed as psychologists in Texas and then developed a successful private practice in psychology and family counseling for 40 years in the Dallas area, until their retirement in 2015.
Kay, Doug, and their daughters joined First Baptist Church Richardson in 1977 and have been active members ever since. Kay was an amazingly intelligent, talented, and creative person who loved to sew, crochet, knit, cook, play piano, and teach. She was so loved by her students, clients, colleagues, friends, and family.
Alzheimer`s cruelly took so many of her hobbies away as her memory faded. Despite this, she remained a funny, happy person who loved to go for road trips and eat at Whataburger with her family. She attained advanced degrees at a time when that was unusual for working mothers. She was an incredible role model for her daughters and many other girls and women who knew her. She will be dearly missed, but we know she is with Jesus now, face to face. Praise God for his promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
A Memorial Service & Celebration of Life for Dr. Priscilla Kay Bellamy will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Richardson, located at 1001 N US 75-Central Expy 1000, Richardson, TX 75080.
