After a long and difficult battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease Mary Jane (Santas) Phillips passed away peacefully and went home to be with Jesus on January 12, 2024, at the age of 78.
Mary was born on May 10, 1945, in Wonewoc Township, Juneau County, Wisconsin to Jyles and Phyllis (Schultz) Santas. Mary grew up on a Wisconsin dairy farm and was the youngest of five children.
In 1965 Mary married Terrance (Terry) Phillips after crashing cars in front of McDonald's in Madison, WI. They went on to have two children, Erik Phillips and Kristin Phillips-Sacks.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Mary also enjoyed a long career in nursing. Although Mary’s journey through life was sometimes difficult she held an unwavering faith in God, which she graciously shared with those who surrounded her.
Mary joins her beloved husband Terrance Phillips, her brother John Santas, and granddaughter Nicole Stacy in Heaven.
Mary is survived by her children Erik Phillips and Kristin Phillips-Sacks, her grandchildren Terrance, Michael, and Carter Sacks, her twin brothers Richard (Gladys) Santas and Donovan (Barbara) Santas, sister Jean (Gordon) Stittleburg, sister-in-law, Sandra as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas where funeral services will be held. Her final resting place will be at Wonewoc Cemetery in Wonewoc, WI.
She will be sincerely missed by her loving family, devoted friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.
