Mark Randall Schroeder, age 64, entered into the rest of our Lord March 11, 2015 at 9:35pm at the Methodist Richardson Hospital due to complications of a rare form of pneumonia, surrounded by his family and friends.
Mark was a loving and faithful husband of 40 years to Linda V. Schroeder. He is survived by his wife; daughter Dixie Crandall and son-in-law Brent Crandall of Texas, daughter Evonne Schroeder of Colorado; granddaughter Amanda Crandall, and grandsons Matthew and Tyler Crandall. He is also survived by his father John Kenneth Schroeder, Jr. of Pennsylvania and mother Faith Davis Hatter of Maine; sister Priscilla Hawkins of Wyoming, brother Lee Schroeder of Virginia, sister Diane Norwood of Florida, sister Pamela Breeden of West Virginia, brother John Kenneth Schroeder III of Maine, and sister Jacqueline Whitney of Pennsylvania; and five nieces and seven nephews.
The oldest of seven children, Mark was born on February 27, 1951 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to John Kenneth Schroeder Jr. and Faith Davis Hatter. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1973 with a BA in History and a minor in religion and later received an MBA from Amber University in 1985. He was accepted into the Virginia Tech cadet corps and entered the Army Infantry 101st Airborne Division upon graduation from Virginia Tech. While in the army, he attained the rank of Captain.
Mark married Linda on September 3, 1974 in the Salt Lake temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After the birth of his two daughters, Mark decided to leave the army and was honorably discharged in 1981. He moved to Plano to accept a position with Texas Instruments (later Raytheon). He maintained his employment there until his death. In addition to his regular employment, he was also founder and co-owner of Lone Star Mint.
An active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was blessed to serve in many positions including Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America (for more than 10 years), Sunday school teacher, and High Councilor. Mark spent the last five years of his life serving as the bishop of the Plano 7th ward. One week after his release as bishop, he entered the hospital for treatment. He will be forever remembered by his congregation as a valiant servant of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16 at the LDS Church at 2700 Roundrock Trail in Plano, TX. Mark will be interred at the Plano Mutual Cemetery.
