A celebration of Kurt’s Life will take place at a date and time that is to be determined. He will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Those who knew Kurt were touched by his generous spirit and loving nature. He is remembered as a man of faith, a Christian who lived his beliefs through his actions. His love for his family was boundless, and he is survived by his daughter, who was his world, Joycelyn Paige Barks. His loving sister, Gretchen McClurken (Mark), his caring mother, Dorismae Barks (nee Kent), his uncle, James Marvin Kent, and his bonus brother, Mike Gray (Jackie) and Mike's son Jack Gray, will cherish his memory. Kurt is preceded in death by his father, Earl Allen Barks Jr., his grandfather, James Kenneth Davis, his grandmother, Mary Katherine Kent, and his aunt, Doris DeVore.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Kurt served his country with honor and distinction. He was a military patrol member during Desert Storm and later in the war in Iraq. His dedication to his fellow servicemen and women extended beyond his military service, as he actively participated in many programs designed to aid veterans. With a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those who served, Kurt involved himself in a church ministry function that assisted veterans dealing with homelessness, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other life challenges.
Kurt's educational journey was marked by his determination and passion for helping others. He earned a scholarship and graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute, and at the time of his passing, he was pursuing his Ph.D. in Mental Health, a testament to his commitment to making a difference in the field of mental wellness.
Kurt's interests and hobbies painted a picture of a man who cherished time with his loved ones. He enjoyed playing card games with his family, creating a space for laughter and togetherness. Crafting with his daughter, Paige, was a special activity they shared, making homemade candles that they would gift to family and friends, spreading warmth and light. Kurt's love for the Hill Country in Texas was well-known, as he found peace and joy in its beauty.
Kurt also owned a company called "Mane Event Party Ponies " he had 2 small ponies named "Mustang and Ebony" and they would be hired out for young girls' birthday parties the little girls would dress up like princesses and ride on the ponies - it was magical for Kurt to see those little faces so happy and for a moment they were a princess. Kurt also loved Donkeys and was in the process of writing a children's book on a Donkey named Duncan and he was in the process of getting it illustrated. Kurt was an avid reader all of his life and he was also a certified scuba diver and traveled all over the world.
Described by those who knew him best as loving, generous, and passionate, Kurt's legacy is one of selflessness and kindness. His contributions to his family, friends, community, and country are immeasurable and will continue to resonate with those he has left behind.
Kurt Allen Barks lived a life that exemplified the values he held dear. His memory will be honored not only through the stories shared by those who loved him but also through the positive impact of his actions that will continue to be felt by many. He was a beacon of hope and a source of strength, and his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.
The Family will receive friends for a Memorial Gathering on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11 AM, Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th St Plano, Texas, 75074 where a Celebration of Kurt's Life will being at 12 PM. Inurnment with Military Honors will ensue at the Dallas- Fort Worth National Cemetery.
As we say goodbye to Kurt, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that was full of purpose and love. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of compassion, service, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him. Rest in peace, Kurt Allen Barks; your memory will always be a blessing.
