Jerry Lee Taylor, 84, of Richardson, TX, peacefully passed on August 12, 2020 at home in the presence of his loving family. Jerry, born December 7, 1935 in Sherman, Texas to parents Aubrey Thomas Taylor and Clara Cantrell Taylor, spent time growing up in both Sherman and Dallas, TX. Jerry joined the U.S. Navy Reserves at the age of 16 and was a proud graduate of Sherman High School, Class of 1954. Jerry then attended college and graduated from the University of North Texas. Upon completion, he attended OCS in Norfolk, Virginia, served as Lieutenant aboard the USS Forrestal, and retired from service in 1959.
Jerry returned to Dallas, Texas and embarked in a successful career in the apparel industry, working many years for Levi Strauss, from which he retired in the early 1990’s. Along the way, he met his wife, of 41 years, Mary Margaret Burke Taylor, whom he married in December 1970 and had three children. His professional career resumed in a partnership with Mary Margaret at Plano Sports Authority, where he helped usher in a major expansion of youth sports in Plano, Texas. Ultimately, the couple retired from PSA after 18 years.
Jerry enjoyed a long, fruitful and happy life, and those who knew him were blessed with his gifts of kindness, friendship, humor, joy, mentorship and loyalty. Jerry is survived by son, Burke Taylor and wife Kristin Taylor of Fort Worth, TX; son Brian Taylor of Richardson, TX; daughter Leigh Taylor and husband Deric Diaz of Richardson, TX; grandchildren Whitley and Nolan Taylor of Richardson, TX; Julia Taylor of Fort Worth, TX; and Logan Diaz of Richardson, TX. He was preceded in death by parents Aubrey and Clara Taylor, Sister Patsy Younger and loving wife Mary Margaret Taylor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Salvation Army, an organization dear to Jerry. Graveside services will be conducted on Saturday September 12th at 11:00AM at the Plano Mutual Cemetery, 18th and Jupiter in Plano, Texas
