Jerry Lee Kocher

Jerry was born on September 25,1946 to Albert and Eleanor Kocher of Sedan, Kansas. He was the youngest of eight children.

Jerry grew up in Sedan, Kansas, and graduated from Sedan High School in 1964. After graduation, he briefly attended Independence Community College in Independence, Kansas, where he roomed with his good friend, Larry Depew. He then moved to North Texas to be close to his brothers, Cleo and Richard, and worked in the defense industry for many years before retiring in 2012.

Soon after moving to Dallas, Jerry worked at Varo where he met Margaret Mayes, his future mother-in-law, who introduced him to the love of his life, Linda Mayes. Jerry and Linda were married in 1967, and were married for 57 years. In 1970, they had their only son, Jeffrey. Jerry loved music, especially Elvis, Brenda Lee, and Roy Orbison. He enjoyed dancing and was good at it. He loved sports, especially football and golf. Jerry played football in high school and was an All Conference Guard for the Sedan Blue Devils. He coached little league football for a while in Plano. Jerry was a member of the Plano Jaycees where he was a state director in 1974-1975, won many awards, and was involved in many Jaycees sponsored events.

Jerry had a larger than life personality and never met a stranger. He could be described as gregarious, funny, and generous. He was loving and extremely proud of his family. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Eleanor Kocher, his sister Dorothy Raymon and his brothers Albert, Clyde, Cleo, Earl, Richard, and Gary. Jerry is survived by his wife Linda Kocher, his only son Jeffrey Kocher and wife Missy Kocher, his grandson Kyler Kocher, his granddaughter Kelsey Kocher, and numerous nieces, nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews all of whom he loved very much.

A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 2:00pm at Ted Dickey Funeral Home, 2128 18th Street in Plano, Texas.
