James was welcomed home by his older sister Dorris Jean Tabor and older brother John Edward Tabor. They all grew up together in Denton, Texas. James had a paper route at a very young age and saved him money to buy a Model T automobile which he restored and loved driving. They lived by the TWU Golf Course and he loved to caddy for extra money for his movies and hobbies.
He graduated from Denton High School and attended North Texas State University. He left North Texas to serve in the United States Army and after discharge, returned to North Texas in 1955. James's time of service in the Army was from 1953 until 1955 and during that time, he was in Basic Training in El Paso, Texas and served briefly in New York and then in Austria, Germany and France. He entered the service as a Private and was a Corporal at discharge.
During his college years, he and his closest friends owned a boat and spent many hours water skiing on area lakes. Later when his boys were very young he took great pleasure in teaching them to water ski. While in College, he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
After College, he worked for Collins Radio as a draftsman. He continued with Collins radio which became Rockwell International, for the next 37 years until his retirement in 1996. At the time of his retirement, he was Manager of Logistic Services. All his buddies at Rockwell International called him Jim.
He was married to Ola Mae Taylor on Friday October 10, 1958 at the Justin Methodist Church. They enjoyed 62 years of happiness and were blessed with two amazing sons; William "Bill" Michael Tabor and Robert "Bob" Mark Tabor.
James was a very loving and sharing man. He loved his two sons unconditionally but applied discipline when needed - after a very long talk about why they were being punished. His most happy times, during their youth, was spent with them on Cub Scout projects especially the Pinewood Derby. He loved to hunt, especially with his sons. He enjoyed working with wood and made many beautiful items which mean so much to his family. He loved hunting and skiing with the boys and attending all their sports activities. He was a wonderful and loving husband who was more generous with time and gifts than advisable at times. He supported all the projects and causes of all his family.
James adored his grandchildren, Caitlin (Andres) Maxwell, Cayce (Zac) McCullock, Sydney Timm Tabor, Will (Savannah) Tabor and Hallie Tabor. He loved watching them participate in their chosen sports and no matter the outcome, he always told them how proud of them he was and that they had played a good game. He also cherished his great grandchildren; Mayce Maxwell, Luke Maxwell, riley McCullock, Emma Maxwell and was looking forward to welcoming another precious one in March, 2020.
James enjoyed watching most sports both live and on TV. He loved Big Band music and was quite fond of some Country Western artists. His favorite TV shows were westerns and in later years he enjoyed Blue Bloods, NCIS, Bull and shows of that nature.
James was lifelong member of the Methodist Church and was a current member of First United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas.
