Irene M Barrera

A Catholic Mass and reception will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano. A procession will leave St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church at 1:00 PM going to Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. A time of devotion/visitation will be held on Sunday evening, January 12, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ted Dickey Funeral Home located at 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas 75074.

Irene was born on February 7, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She attended Roy Miller High School and graduated in 1963. On November 24, 1964 she married Edmundo Barrera, Jr. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Corpus Christi. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past November, surrounded by friends and family.

She is survived by her husband Edmundo, and her children Barry, Brett and Barbara. She had five grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Madeleine, Christopher and James, whom she adored. She is also survived by her sisters Mary Rodriquez and Sylvia Cadena.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Leonor Martinez, brother Guadalupe Rodriquez and son Barton Barrera.

Irene touched the lives of many in the Plano Independent School District, where she worked for 28 years. She began her career at Meadows Elementary School with the Headstart Program, then as Parent Liaison with PISD Practical Parenting Program and finally retired after serving 12 years at Bowman Middle School where she served as Counselor Clerk and Attendance Secretary.

Irene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who love her.
