Helen Orazio Latham was, or rather is, many things to many of us, even after death. Like those that came before her and those that came after, she wasn’t perfect. She’s made mistakes, more than she may have realized, or admitted. Some if not most relating to her past as a parent. But we won’t discuss what she did wrong any more than you want to listen to it.
We are here to mourn her passing. Helen was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. We know not all the hardships she’s faced or what regrets she may have held. What we do know is she was there for us. There is no doubt that we each wish to have had more time with her.
Losing a relative and/or loved one is never easy. It’s just as hard to cope with while life goes on. But as heartbreaking as it is to have lost Helen in the first place, we should also be glad; Glad to have had her in our lives. To celebrate in each of our proudest moments. To help each other through our saddest times, and every other moment we’ve shared, be it good or bad.
Even though history won’t remember Helen Orazio Latham, we certainly will, for as long as we all may live. May she find peace in the afterlife, and may we meet her again when our time comes, however long that may be.
