Born Elizabeth Amanda Whittemore on September 2, 1950 and passed away peacefully on May 25, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth S. Whittemore and Miriam Peckham Whittemore. She is survived by her husband of nearly 37 years, Pace Goodwin, two sisters, Alison Whittemore of San Antonio, TX and Vanessa Whittemore of Albuquerque, NM. Also, by her dearest friend, Margaret Fudger of Sumpter, SC and her family as well as friends over 50 years from Indiana University, Evan and Patti Davis and Sharon and Pete Wade. She is also survived by her brother Drew (Dierdre) Goodwin of Rapid City, SD as well as several nieces and nephews.
Amanda was born into a military family and had over 40 addresses in her life. Her father was a career Army officer and both parents served in WWII and were in Berlin during the entirety of the Berlin Airlift and were married at the time. She lived in both Japan and Taiwan growing up. She was a proud graduate of Indiana University where she earned a Master's degree in Library Science. Amanda moved to Texas in 1981 after her father's death because her mother and both sisters lived here. Amanda retired in June of 2006 after a 30 year career with the Social Security Administration and later CMS. A cradle Episcopalian, she was a long term member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church and very active in alter guild and served as a Stephen Minister. For years, she was a member of the Dallas Quilters Guild, a dedicated knitter, accomplished seamstress and of any form of needlework. Amanda could make a friend of just about anyone and had the unique ability to maintain those friendships for years.
The family wants to express our deep gratitude to the staff of the Faith Presbyterian Hospice for the kindness and compassion shown to Amanda during her nearly 11 week stay there.
In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to The Church of Holy Nativity, Plano, Texas.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.TedDickeyFuneral.com for the Goodwin family.
