He attended rural school there, graduating from Stanley High School and served in the United States Army.
Donald was united in marriage to Patricia Anne Holbach at St. Leo’s Church in Minot, North Dakota.
Donald and Patricia made their home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Don was a quality control engineer for Collins Radio, later Rockwell International.
They were blessed with four children, Deborah, Douglas, Mary Kay, and Michael.
Don was involved with the Boy Scouts and served as Scoutmaster.
He also enjoyed planning family vacations, camping and canoeing, along with woodworking and photography.
Don’s job took them to Florida for six years, then to Plano, Texas where he retired.
Don was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and served on the finance council.
After retirement, Don and Patty enjoyed traveling, both touring the country in their motor home and visiting such far away destinations as Hawaii, Germany, Ireland, Alaska and the Canadian Rockies.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Patricia of 58 years; four children, Deborah (Randy) Anderson of Cherokee, Iowa; Douglas (Carol) Hill of Palm Bay, Florida; Mary Kay Hill of Williamsburg, Virginia; Michael (Michelle) Hill of Melbourne, Florida; seven grandchildren, Amber Anderson, Nathan (Sarah) Anderson, Ashley (Adam) Parcel, Abigail Anderson, Chelsea Hill, Eric Hill, Shane Hill; one great grandchild, Elijah Mba; a sister Carol (Ken) Deal; sisters-in-law Karen (Jim) Steffen, Laverne O’Neill, Diane (Roy) Hyslop; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Faith Presbyterian Hospice or a charity of your choice.
A Memorial Mass with full military honors, followed by inurnment will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church in Allen, Texas.
