David was born December 2, 1964, in Paola, Kansas. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to the St. Louis, Missouri area, then Overland Park, Kansas, and finally settled in Plano, Texas where he lived most of his life. He graduated high school from Plano East Senior High School in 1983.
David was the son of James Francis and Sharon Louise Thies. David was predeceased by his father, and is survived by his mother, Sharon DeLuca (husband Sam), his children Stephanie Thies, Jaclyn Thies Afyouni (husband Eric and daughter Seda), Chloe Savage (son Chase), and Lindsay Savage. He is also survived by his sisters Jeannette Peterman (husband Jeff), Terri Masters (husband Gary), Brenda Colegrove (husband Lloyd) and Vicky Henry (husband Kurt), and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, nephews and nieces.
David was a tenderhearted, compassionate soul who always put others before himself. He freely helped anyone in need by lending a hand where needed or simply by being with them when they sought comfort. His family was his world, and he loved showering his daughters and grandchildren with countless moments of laughter and play. He was a talented photographer, starting this lifelong hobby in high school by creating a home darkroom. His nature photography transformed ordinary scenes into extraordinarily creative works of art. David was also a sports fan who played baseball in his youth, and avidly followed the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs.
David’s friends and family will gather in Plano for a memorial service Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Ted Dickey Funeral Home, located at 2128 18th Street, Plano, Texas 75074.
Inurnment will be at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Wea, Kansas at a later date.
