David L. Hodgson, of Allen, Tx, previously of Palm City, Fl, Silverthorne, Co and Berwyn, Pa, passed away, surrounded by loving family, on September 25, 2022. He was just a few weeks short of his 87th birthday. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold and Ruth Hodgson. He is predeceased by his brother Donald Hodgson.
David grew up in Bala Cynwyd, Pa, graduating from Lower Merion High School in 1953. He formed lasting friendships from his early years, and he invested time and energy into those relationships for over 70 years. David was a member of the Lower Merion High School lacrosse team and was inducted into the Lower Merion High School Hall of Fame as a defenseman. David went on to attend Penn State University and graduated from Ursinus College. Summertime found David in Stone Harbor NJ as a lifeguard. He was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He went on to proudly serve our country as a Marine from 1957 to 1959.
Predeceased by the mother of their three boys, Susan Mearns Hodgson, David committed himself to his career at Merrill Lynch and to the interests he shared passionately with his three sons like lacrosse, hunting, golf, and travel and always the pursuit of happiness. David was instrumental in the formation and success of the Ashbee youth lacrosse club, and he served as a well-respected college lacrosse referee for over 30 years.
David’s career with Merrill Lynch (30 years) ranged from Pennsylvania to Florida managing financial portfolios, office staff and offices, and he was recognized numerous times during his tenure for his outstanding performance. He created lasting friendships and lifelong relationships from his partnership with Merrill and showed everyone around him what it means to love what you do, so you never work a day in your life.
A devoted father and an avid outdoorsman, after retirement, you would find Dave with friends on the golf course, attending lacrosse games, planning his next seasonal hunting adventure, hosting a fine dinner/wine gathering or at the local watering hole making friends at the bar! His smile was captivating, his wit endearing, his love for life infectious and his eggnog and cocktails unforgettable.
David is survived by his loving children, Kirk Hodgson (Sandra), Allen, Tx, Darren Hodgson (Leanne), El Jebel, Co, and Brandt Hodgson, Denver, Co and nieces and nephews. His proudest moments involve the activities and accomplishments of his four amazing grandchildren Dawson, Rylee, Ryan, and Sophie Hodgson. David is also survived by his cousins David and Craig Decker.
Super Dave, as he was called by his younger generation of friends, leaves behind an incredible legacy of love and generosity, a positive attitude, an incredible work ethic and a heartwarming love of life. He made so many friends over the years, one can only reference them as his extended family.
His sons were his pride and joy, and whenever he spoke of them, you could see the love and smile in his blue eyes. We know Super Dave is zipping across lacrosse fields in Heaven and is quite possibly the best bartender heaven has ever seen.
Rest In Peace Dad. You will be loved and remembered always and forever.
