Brian was born in Oak Lawn, Illinois, and grew up in Chicago. Brian later lived in Pasadena, California, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and eventually settled in Plano, Texas, where he spent the last 13 years.
Taking after his mother, Brian was a sweet, sensitive soul who was generously giving and endlessly grateful for the simplest kindnesses. Brian had a passion for collecting having amassed a collection of more than 400 stuffed alligators from all over the United States and around the world. He enjoyed building with LEGO and was a past member of the DFWLUG, showing his own creations at LEGO exhibitions.
Brian loved dogs. His family had a collie growing up in Chicago and later in life he adopted his beloved long-time furry companion, Sydney, who he rescued from a Fort Lauderdale shelter. He had a passion for music starting as tenor in his childhood church (Brighton Park Presbyterian in Chicago), continuing in his high school (Whitney M. Young Magnet) chorus, and later performing for many years as a member of the Windy City Gay Men's Chorus and the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus.
Brian studied interior design in college and worked in a variety of office and retail positions throughout his life, including working at the Waterford Wedgewood store in Chicago and then in Florida.
Brian is survived by his husband, Richard LeBoutillier, of Plano, Texas; a brother, Scott Mardis (Heather) of Concord, Massachusetts; nieces Britt Mardis (Lydia) and Glyn Mardis; nephews Stover Mardis, Nicholas LeBoutillier (Roshni), and Benjamin LeBoutillier (Morganna).
Also surviving are two aunts, one uncle, and 12 cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Glen Mardis and Marilyn Mardis (nee Stover), his sister Carrole Mardis, and an infant brother Steven Mardis.
The Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano, Texas has charge of arrangements.
