He was the beloved husband of Joan (née Bartell) of 56 years, a loving father to his four daughters: Joan Marie (Paul Greene); Alaine Iacovino (Michael); Dorene Conlon (Shane); Cheryl Paraskevopoulos (Demetrios), cherished Papa to his eight grandchildren: Anthony Iacovino (fiancée Victoria), Christopher Iacovino, Gregory Paraskevopoulos, Ryleigh Greene, Marina Paraskevopoulos, Lilliana Conlon, Zachary Greene, Dashiel Conlon; adored uncle, brother-in-law and friend.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mathias and Maria (née Perz), his sisters, Marie McHugh and Anne Menhofer, and his grandson baby Emmet Conlon.
Artie was born July 17, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from Xavier High School in 1951 and enlisted in the US Army in 1953. After his honorable discharge in 1955, he attended Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and then worked as a field engineer for IBM until his retirement in 1993.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, and working on home improvements with his wife and daughters. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Artie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Visitation for Matthias A. will be held Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 655 Old Country Rd, Plainview, New York 11803. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Friday, March 17, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St Pius X R.C. Church, 270 Washington Ave, Plainview, New York 11803. An Entombment will occur Friday, March 17, 2023 at St. John's Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Avenue, Middle Village, NY 11379. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to St. Pius X R.C. Church or a charity of your choice.
