Helen Marie Litts Miller, 92, died peacefully January 20, 2017 at her home in North Carolina, surrounded by family. She was born on March 20, 1924 to Edward and Helen Litts. She married William Preston Miller in 1945, when he returned from service during WW II. Together they were a great couple of that greatest generation. Bill preceded her in death, as did their son Robert.
Helen raised seven children then pursued her formal education. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Molloy College, a Master’s degree in Education from Hofstra University, and a Master’s degree in Administration from St. John’s University. She then went on to have a long career in Catholic schools, serving as a teacher and principal in New York, Rhode Island and Georgia. She was active in all parishes where she lived and was a daily communicant. Her passions included family, church, reading and lifelong learning.
Helen’s children include daughters Joan (husband Matt) of New York, Maryellen (husband Dennis) of North Carolina, Patricia (husband Ren) of Virginia and Barbara (husband Greg) of Indiana. Her sons include William (wife Sally) of Indiana, Donald (wife Lee Ann) of Rhode Island and Stephen (wife Lori) of Rhode Island. Helen and Bill had 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, many of whom danced with her at her 90th birthday party. She and Bill left quite a legacy.
