Roy Morrow, Jr. was born November 28, 1919 to Roy Morrow, Sr. and Gladys May Corwin in Lewiston, Idaho. He passed away peacefully on November 15, 2013 from cancer at the age of 94. He was preceded in death three years ago by his beautiful wife, Lydia. They were married for 64 years. Roy will be dearly missed by his two surviving children, Davie E. Morrow and Gail A. Burke.
Roy’s parents moved to California when he was very young. They eventually settled in Lindsay, CA. Roy graduated from Lindsay High School in 1939. He worked as a clerk and then manager for a grocery store while going to college. He moved from Lindsay to San Mateo to attend San Mateo Junior College and majored in Forestry. Roy was a avid outdoorsman who loved to camp, fish and hiking in the mountains and was an excellent photographer who enjoyed documenting his family and many life experiences.
Roy joined the U.S. Army on December 4, 1942 and proudly served in the 325th Field Artillery Battalion, 84th Infantry Division as a Radio Technician during the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central European campaigns. During his years in the Army he received the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. He received his Honorable Discharge from the Army on February 3, 1946.
Roy and Lydia were married in 1949 and moved from Lindsay to Northern California where they resided in Folsom, Placerville and then settled in the Camino Area. Roy worked for many years as Print Pressman for the Mountain Democrat and the Pioneer Press. In 1977 he went to work for the El Dorado Irrigation District as a Waste Water Treatment Operator. He retired after twenty-one years on August 21, 1998.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, 2855 Cold Springs Rd., Placerville, CA 95667. His final days were blessed and very peaceful.
