She was born Peggy Virginia Starkey, May 7th 1950 in Greenville, South Carolina to James Timothy and Delphia Lela Starkey. She left this world to be with her lord after battling health issues for several years on December 29th 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents ‘JT’ and Dolly (as they were known), grandmother Ada Starkey and half sister Shirley. She leaves behind her loving husband Bill, sister Barbara and husband Don of Kentucky, Cousins Marvin and wife Faye, Great Aunt Ethel, Aunts Lucille, Virginia, Irene, Peggy and Uncles Alvin and Raymond of South Carolina.
She was a transplanted southern girl, graduating from Norwalk High School in 1969, went on to earn a bachelors degree at Cal State Long Beach. She also began working at All State Insurance after high school and spent 43 years in the insurance industry at various positions of claims adjusting. She was very proud of her work. In late 1989 she moved to Placerville where several months later she met her husband, Bill. They married in 1991 and moved to Camino in 1996 where they enjoyed the mountain life until her passing. She became involved with the Humane Society in early ’92 and over the years rescued numerous cats, dogs, birds and just about any creature in need. It became her passion. She had a flare for painting was an avid reader, enjoyed baseball, road trips, exploring new places and things, camping, stock car races, going to movies and watching TV. In her last year she joined ‘Women in Recovery’ where she made many new friends and loving support. God bless all of you ladies. She will be sorely missed by many but most of all by her loving devoted husband, Bill.
A memorial of her life will be held at the Chapel of the Pines, 2855 Cold Springs Rd., Placerville, Saturday January 26th at 1 PM.
