On October 22, 1928, in Freeman Spur, Illinois, Laura Helen Siwik was born to parents Stanley and Helen Siwik. Laura grew up in a time where resources were limited and times were difficult, so she learned to garden, can the produce, sew clothes, and be self-sustaining. After graduating Herrin High School, she moved to St. Louis, MO and got a job, and met her future husband, Joe. They were married on May 13, 1950, and moved to Cahokia, IL, where they raised their family of four children. Because Jesus was the center of her life, everything she did reflected her love for Him; raising their family to have a relationship with Jesus; serving faithfully in her church; she valued and loved everyone she met, showing loving-kindness and compassion without reserve. Things that brought Mom joy: Family Worship, Music, Fishing, Baking, Puzzles, Walks, Church, and Family. Even though Laura never had the opportunity to play a musical instrument she loved to sing. And her desire to develop musical appreciation in her children resulted in her mandate that they “take up” lessons on the piano in order to cultivate their love for music as well. And she succeeded in having her dream fulfilled.
Even though dementia robbed her of her speech and memory, she still showed her love for others in holding hands and patting cheeks. Laura fell asleep in Jesus on September 20, 2022. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joe and is survived by children: Karen Schneidewind, Barry (Beth) Schneidewind, Lisa (Ken) Crawford, Nancy Schneidewind; grandchildren: Kristine Crawford Johnson and Kari Schneidewind; great grandchild: Jace Johnson.
