Kay Richardson Brawley was born in Alhambra, California on June 16, 1954 to Carl and Emogene Richardson. Kay passed away on May 21st surrounded by her family; her mother, Gene, husband, Rod Brawley, loving daughters, Lindsey and Reily Hall, sister Emogene Haller, and sister Jance Hurlbut. The Richardson Family moved to New Jersey from California when Kay was in the third grade. She graduated from Watchung High School in 1972 and has remained close with her classmates. She did her undergraduate work at Albian College in Michigan and the University of Delaware. Kay received her M.A. in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing from Western Maryland College. She taught at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside for several years and South Oceanside Elementary School for several more. The last fifteen years of her teaching career, Kay taught Kindergarten at Blue Oak Elementary and Silva Valley in Cameron Park and El Dorado Hills respectively. Kay retired from teaching in 2015. She touched the lives of thousands of children. Kay loved to travel and one of the best was a trip to Banff, Alberta Canada and Lake Louise in October 2017 with her mother, husband Rod, and daughter, Lindsey. Her ongoing search for the perfect beach is legendary. She has basked in the sun from the Jersey Shore to Ocean City, Maryland; from Tyson Street in Oceanside to Lovers Point in Monterey; from Amsterdam to Mallorca; to the gin-clear waters of most of the islands in the Caribbean; and from Zihuatanejo, Mazatlan and Playa del Carmen in Mexico. It is interesting that the perfect beach was always the beach on which she was sitting. Kay loved people and celebrated life in the company of others. She loved throwing a good party with Rod and always gave a helping hand to her students, their parents, her friends, and her family. Kay was and is loved dearly by all who have had the pleasure of her company.
