By all accounts Darren was truly an exceptional man. For the last 32 years he shared his passions with his loving wife Denice, and those passions were many.
For over 40 years Darren was an Ironworker. The last few years of that profession saw him as a Master Ironworker Superintendent, and his talents for construction didn't end there. He is considered by those who knew him well to be a master tinkerer. He played and tinkered with everything he could get his hands on and could, literally, fix anything.
His "fixing" was't limited to machinery either. Darren was a father figure to many people in need of a strong man of integrity to fill that space in their lives. His integrity is described by his family as "do the right thing, no matter what." He was a selfless example of that for many people.
His interests were as simple as they were varied. If it involved his jeep or his trusted pal Bug, he was all in. That included 4-wheel driving, motorcycle riding, camping, desert visits - especially in Moab, UT - and all the grandeur that those trips provided his adventurous soul, which he shared with his family.
If all of those interests weren't enough Darren was a volunteer firefighter in Georgetown for years, adding to the way in which he gave. The term "Renaissance Man" may be thrown around for some, but for Darren it applies. In fact, Darren was so talented at everything he did, that many of his friends found it infuriating. How can you be that good, and kind, and caring, and loving? Why, with a little touch of something else. Denice was adamant in describing him, and the way everyone else would describe him, as an "endearing asshole."
