William Joseph Ritter, age 88, of the Town of McCandless, Pennsylvania passed on Friday January 19, 2024 in Cranberry Place, Cranberry, Butler County. William was born on April 20, 1935 to Edward (Eduard) Ritter and Barbara Katherine (Schweikert) Ritter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
William is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Barbara, his brother Edward (Eddie), his sister Theresa, and nephew Earl Buchanan.
William is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Sharon (Lukehart) Ritter, sons Eric and Christopher Ritter, his daughter Dana (Heth) Daley, and his grandchildren Devin and Delta Daley.
William was a graduate of Perry High School. He enlisted in the US Army and served in the US Army Signal Corps as a Microwave Technician on Hokkaido Island, Japan. After his term of service he began attending night school at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Engineering. He graduated in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. After his graduation from college he began working for Westinghouse Electric Company, where he remained until his retirement, working on nuclear power plant control systems. His work took him around the country and internationally. He and his family were founding members of St John Neumann Catholic Church in Franklin Park.
William loved to travel and took his family on many vacations around the country visiting national parks and family. After his retirement he and his wife travelled extensively around the globe on cruises. William loved playing golf and tennis. He also loved “putzing” in his garage, yard, work shed and garden.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at St John Neuman Church 2230 Rochester Road McCandless Twp., PA 15237 at 10:30 AM.
