Walter Channing Galbreath, age 90 of Central City, Somerset County, formerly of Ben Avon, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018 in Johnstown, PA. He was the loving husband of 67 years to Carol R. (Ringland) Galbreath; cherished father of Cheryl Lynn Huttner and her husband Bruce of Munhall, Valerie June Rice and her husband the late Sgt. Gary Franklin Rice of Huachuca, Arizona, Kirk Allen Galbreath and his wife Karan of Ben Avon and Jeffrey David Galbreath and his wife Kathleen of Pasadena, MD; proud Grandpa of Sarah, Rebecca, Catherine, Ian, Christopher, Kendra, Crystal, Katerina and Jason; Great-Grandpa of Blake, Alexandria, Ciera, Cayla, Crystal, Christopher and Joshua and Great-Great-Grandpa of Carter, William and Elizabeth. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 25, 2018, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Inc., 1014 California Ave., Avalon, (412-766-5600), where funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018, at 12:30 PM. Burial with military honors will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
Walt was a retired foreman who worked at Bethlehem Steel for over 25 years. He was a member of Masonic Order, Avalon Lodge #657 F & AM, where he had served as a Past Master, a member of the Scottish Rite and former President of the Ben Avon Volunteer Fire Company. During World War II, he served his country honorably in the Army Air Corp. Not only did he have a great love for his family and friends, but he also had a great love for his Steelers and Nascar.
