Sondra E. Morrison

Pennsylvania from COVID-19. She was 77.

Sandy, as she was known to her friends and family, was born in Philadelphia,

Pennsylvania on November 6, 1943. She was the daughter of the late George and Alice

Shugert. Sandy was raised in the Philadelphia suburb of Abington and graduated from

Abington High School. She later lived in the Olney neighborhood of Philadelphia proper

and enjoyed being close to her sister, Jean, and her family. In 1978, Sandy moved to the

then “new city” of Columbia, Maryland. She was attracted to the ideals upon which it

was founded, including racial, cultural, and economic diversity. This move also enabled

her to be closer to her sister, Linda, who was living in Baltimore.

Sandy was the beloved wife of John for forty two years; mother of Jerry Kelly (Tricia)

and Hilary O’Donoghue (Kelly); grandmother of Garrett, Kristin, Kathleen, and Josh; and

sister of Linda. She was predeceased by her sister, Jean.

Prior to retiring, Sandy was a registered nurse. She earned her nursing degree while

juggling the demands of raising her children and maintaining a warm and loving home.

Sandy graduated with honors from the Howard Community College nursing program in

1984. She practiced nursing at Howard County General Hospital and then later in

Arizona.

Sandy was happiest being around her family and particularly loved spending time with

her grandchildren. She also liked discussing politics and current events. In 2007, she

realized her dream of traveling to Europe and spent two weeks with John in France and

England. She had fond memories of their adventure and spoke of it often. This trip also

led to a passion for French cuisine and restaurants. Throughout her life, Sandy enjoyed

reading and writing poetry and received several awards for her compositions.

While she was born and raised in Philadelphia and had lived in California, Arizona, and

Pittsburgh, Sandy always considered Maryland to be her home. In accordance with her

wishes, she will be buried in Maryland at the Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.

Her services will be private consistent with measures intended to limit the transmission of

COVID-19.
