Richard S. Loehr, 89 of McCandless, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017. Beloved husband of 66 years to the late Jean W. Loehr; loving father of Charles R. (Mary) Loehr of Olney, MD and Linda (John) Hudec of Pittsburgh; grandfather of Colin C. (Louise) Loehr of Baltimore, MD; and great-grandfather to Sofia and Andrew of Baltimore, MD. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. Sports played a huge role in his life, whether it was playing various sports or simply watching them on TV. He was quite a gifted athlete, having been considered by the Pirates. He even continued to be active in various sports through his senior years. He was a man of the people and a huge supporter of worker’s rights. He retired from Conrail, working in labor relations. He was a longtime member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. Richard loved to travel, whether it was cruising the rivers of Europe or traveling across the US. His biggest love however was his family, all of whom will miss him immensely. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1032 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp., 412-364-4444. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11am in the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 920 Perry Hwy, Ross Twp. Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Church of Highland Cemetery.
