Mary D. Erickson (Nee Glazier) passed away peacefully at her home at the Masonic Village of Sewickley, PA on May 30, 2022, at 95 years of age. She is survived by her adoring children Kim, Julie and John Erickson, her beloved grandson Eric Bianco and her two devoted nephews John (Carole) and Steve Glazier and their respective lovely families. Mary was preceded in death by her cherished husband of 55 years, Ralph Erickson, her brother Bill (Joline, Deceased) Glazier, and her sister Muriel Glazier.
Born and raised by her loving parents Dell and Murray Glazier in Haileybury, Ontario, Canada on the shores of Lake Temiskaming, Mary enjoyed an exceptionally happy, privileged and idyllic childhood. During the cold and snowy northern provincial winters, her pursuits were skiing and ice-skating, and in the short summer season, swimming in both her hometown lake and at the family cottage on the Saint Lawrence River. Her small town of Haileybury was much like the fictional Mayberry (Andy Griffith TV show), but with one great exception, the horse-drawn sleigh rides during the winter months. She was a proud alumnus of Branksome Hall (Toronto) and the Saint Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing (North Bay) and took great pride in her career as a registered nurse working in both Canada (Haileybury, North Bay and Toronto) and the United States (New York City and Pittsburgh). Her career as a nurse took a pause as she and her husband raised their children at their home on Laurel Lane, Hampton Township, Allison Park, PA. But, once she was an empty nester, she renewed her nursing license and returned to the work she loved much to the benefit of her many grateful patients.
Mary and her husband Ralph were both well known for their gregarious, humorous, generous, kind and hardworking natures, which was evidenced by their many, long-term close friendships that spanned their lifetimes and the globe. Mary was able to bring merriment to any gathering and she was much valued as a guest wherever she was invited, which was most everywhere. Cheers to Mary and her 95 years!
A private interment will take place in Canada on an as yet undetermined date.
