Marjorie Black Sloan, formerly of Bellevue and more recently of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully in her home on March 31, 2018 at the age of 96. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Sloan, also of Bellevue and her grandson Jeffrey Remnant. She was a loving wife and mother. Her joy, contentment, and encouragement will be sweetly remembered by her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Jean Ann Black of Logan, OH; her five children, Virginia Sloan (Gainesville, FL), Barbara Sloan (Washington, DC), Bob Sloan (Waukee, IA), Betsy Remnant (Boulder, CO), and Dee Stegeman (Fort Collins, CO, and Papua New Guinea); their spouses Louis, Ann, Jim, and Ray; nine grandchildren and their spouses; as well as great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marjorie graduated from Bellevue High School and then attended Bethany College and the University of Pittsburgh. She was an active member of Fremont Avenue UP Church in Bellevue (now, New Life Community Church) where she taught Sunday School and participated in several other organizations. She was also active in PTA and other school-related organizations, Meals on Wheels, Literary Club, two bridge clubs, and enjoyed sailing as well as travel. After her children had grown, she worked as secretary for the Bellevue Baptist Church and Judge of Elections.
Marjorie’s family will travel to Pittsburgh to honor her and celebrate her life. Friends will be received on Friday, August 24, 2018, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at Orion C.
