

Lamona Athens passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the age of 88 in Cool Springs, TN. She was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, and then remained in Squirrel Hill with her husband, Anthony to raise their family.
She enjoyed teaching first grade in the Pittsburgh Public schools for 27 years at Colfax and Crescent Elementary Schools. She was also active in the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral serving as a Sunday School teacher and on the Ladies Philoptochos. She always made time for everyone and made them feel special. She left a smile on all those that she touched.
Most of all, she loved being a Mom and, especially, a Yiayia! Lamona is survived by her two loving and devoted sons, Damon, and Peter and his wife, Susan; her two grandsons, Anthony (Tara) and Lawrence (Michaela); and her two granddaughters, her namesake, Lemonia, and Michaela.
She was preceded in passing by her husband, Anthony Athens; her parents, Damianos and Christina Manes; and her brother, James Manes.
Family and friends are welcome at the HP Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 on Sunday, January 26, from noon to 4 PM.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27 at 10 AM at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 419 S. Dithridge St, Pittsburgh PA 15213 followed by burial at Homewood Cemetery, Pittsburgh PA.
