On Sunday, January 6, 2019, Kay J. Shaw, age 84, of Alpharetta GA, formerly of Pittsburgh, Tulsa, and Philadelphia, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness. Loving wife of the late John Shaw and of the late Roger Caldwell; she is survived by beloved children Benjamin Caldwell, Keyte (Caldwell) Dalton, Alicia (Caldwell) Hess, Matthew Caldwell and Burton Caldwell, and their spouses Lloyd, Doug, Mary, and Marjorie; devoted grandmother of Roger and Kevin and Jacquie Dalton, John Hess, Rebekah (Hess) and Thomas Verschelden, and Samantha, Andrew, and Jason Caldwell, and Christopher and Barbara Hively; also survived by Sally (Shaw) and Chuck Hively and John Shaw; also survived by seven-great grandchildren. Born in Philipsburg, PA on March 22, 1934, she was the daughter and only child of Charlotte (Barry) and George Fulcomer. She graduated from Turtle Creek High School in 1952 and graduated from Otterbein College in 1957 with a Bachelor of Music degree with Distinction.
In 1982 she earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Pittsburgh, the same day two of her children also received degrees from Pitt. She taught in the Keystone Oaks School District business education department. She became a realtor in her later years in the North Hills and was associated with Howard Hanna Real Estate Services. Throughout her time in the North Hills she was active in Ingomar United Methodist Church and served on the music committee.
In her retirement years in Tulsa, then Philadelphia, and finally in Atlanta, she had the close support of her children in each of the towns in which she lived. She enjoyed watching figure skating, classic TV shows, and the Steelers; she read Time and Smithsonian magazines regularly. During her Philadelphia years she enjoyed returning to upstate PA to visit extended family and Gardners Candies in Tyrone. Her last Christmas was spent with great-grandchildren in Atlanta.
Friends invited Saturday from 10 AM until time of services at 11 AM at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp. Following service, internment at Allegheny Memorial Park.
