John "Spike" Kocher Jr. passed away on December 7, 2022, peacefully while surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 5, 1977, in Pittsburgh PA. He is the loving and dear son to Carol (Kestner) Kocher and the late John Kocher Sr. who passed away in August 2022. Spike is survived by his best friend and partner of 14 years Allason Holt, his brother Brian Kocher and sister Marie (Ronnie) Herbert. He is survived by his two daughters Sariah Kocher and Paige.
Shortly after his birth, John's sister, Marie, chose to call her brother Spike which friends and family have known him as for the rest of his life. Spike's zest for sports began at an early age. He always had a ball or a bat in his hand and ran all over the streets of Etna and Sharpsburg in the pursuit of the next game. He excelled at football and baseball and was a proud Shaler Titan. He would tell stories of glory days and held a record for the longest football throw in gym class that held for decades and a football season where he had eleven interceptions. Spike was a die hard Steelers fan and never missed a game. Professionally, Spike was a master upholsterer and spent 25 years making the world a more beautiful place with his work that is enjoyed in homes and commercial spaces throughout Pittsburgh and the country.
Spike's presence could light up a room along with his infectious laugh. He touched the lives of his family and friends with his passion and tenacity. He was his mother's rock and they enjoyed time and sharing meals together. He spent the last fourteen years with the love of his life, Allason. Always together, they shared a home, a faithful dog, Thunder, and countless memories. He is the epitome of a proud Pittsburgh man; a hard worker, a tough exterior with a heart of gold. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and will forever be in our hearts.
