Born June 27, 1942 in Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late Francis Hickey and Catherine Hickey Remer. He was a former truck driver for the George L. Wilson Company. John had also been a local bartender at “The Pub” in Penn Hills for many years and was an avid Harley Davidson rider and enthusiast. At the Wexford House, John was well liked and often the life of the party at all of their daily activities. He made the most of his time at the Wexford House and participated on many boards including the kitchen/dining board. Since he missed cooking his own meals, he helped pick food options and was determined to bring back good food to all the residents. He was also a big fan of his grandchildren that played hockey and loved to hear about all their travels. But most of all, John was a devoted and lovely husband and father. Married to his wife for over 56 years, they were simply made for each other. Their love and dedication to each other was like no other.
He is survived by his wife Nancy Hickey of over 56 years; one son John C. Hickey, one daughter Kathleen Daniels and husband Scott; four grandchildren, Kayla, John, Connor, and Meghan; two sisters, Ruthann and Lucille. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters; Patty and Norma.
Friends will be received on Monday February 17th, 2020 from 10am until the time of a Catholic Blessing Service at 1:30 pm at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, 1014 California Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15202.
Private interment will follow at Allegheny County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association; 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX, 75231.
