John was the son of the late Charles and LaVerne Doven and husband of Marianne Williams. John served proudly in the U.S. Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps in Fort Myer, Virginia, and retired from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
John graduated in 1971 from Carrick High School and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. John and Marianne enjoyed fishing at their cottage on Pymatuning Lake. John was a gifted trumpet player and played in various bands, including the Pine Creek Community and Ingomar United Methodist Church bands. John was described by many as “the nicest person they knew,” and will be missed by all who knew him. John was a member of the Pymatuning Sportsmen's Club, the American Legion in Linesville PA and Buglers across America
John is survived by his best friend and wife of 34 years Marianne (Williams); brother Vernon (Judy) Doven, sister Susan (Michael) Laurito; sister-in-law Liz (Ken) Gryger, and other relatives and friends.
Friends are welcomed to a visitation on Thursday September 19, 2024, from 2PM to 8PM. Full military honors will take place on September 19th at 7pm at the funeral home followed by a blessing service.
He will be laid to rest privately at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
