Jane Schmidt

Jane M. (Hohman) Schmidt passed away peacefully at home on February 24, 2023. She was born to the late Harry and Minnie (Wagner) Hohman on June 14, 1927 in Pittsburgh. In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Princesa Scott; and nine brothers and sisters.

Jane was a longtime resident of the North Hills and graduated from West View High School. She met her husband, John Schmidt, when he began working for Jane’s father. One day, Jane kindly brought John a milk bottle filled with water as he was working outside, and the rest is history. They spent a wonderful 73 years together, filled with love, laughter, and many hayrides through North Park. Jane and John then raised a family together. Jane was known as the most meticulous housewife, who always kept her house immaculate. In her spare time, Jane loved to bowl and play cards and bingo. She will be remembered as a caring woman who always put her family first.

Jane is survived by her husband, John Schmidt; her daughter, Wilma (Walt) Scott and son, Andrew (the late Cheri) Schmidt; grandchildren, Laura (Edgar) Cojon, Kelly Scott, Angelica (Brian) Lippert, and Michael Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Benjamin, Caleb, and Gavin; sister, Wilma Gruver; and special friend, Ashley.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1000 Avila Court, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Interment to follow at Pinewood Memorial Park.
