Ivy J. Helsel

Age 69, of Wexford, formerly of Hermitage, PA, died Tuesday, January 1, 2013. She was a graduate of Grove City College, a Kindergarten teacher, managed her own day care center, and worked at Verland before continuing for many years at Passavant Memorial Homes. Ivy was always a strong advocate for persons with disabilities. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be sadly missed by all. She was the cherished mother of Jay (Beate) Helsel of Sewickley, PA, Brad (Chisa) Helsel of Portland Oregon, and Doug (Kavita) Helsel of Hatfield, PA; loving sister of Terry (Kathy) Allen of Belpre, OH and Larry Allen of Pittsburgh, PA; loving grandmother to Lukas, Lea, Terra, Kendall, Karishma, Ava, and Benjamin; and loving aunt to Ryan, Kim, Ruth, and Susan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Lawrence Allen; and sister Seville Allen. Friends received on Saturday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1032 Perry Hwy., Ross Twp., 412-364-4444. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. in The River at New Heights Church of God, 2365 Wharrey Dr., Franklin Park Boro, Sewickley, PA 15143.
