Harry P. Hanley, 88, died on July 22, 2020. Mr. Hanley, a longtime resident of the North Hills, is survived by his wife of 63 years Sheila G. Hanley and children Alison McDermott of Gibsonia, Bruce G. Hanley of Chandler, Arizona and grandchildren Grace and Caitlin McDermott of Gibsonia. His son Scott W. Hanley and grandson Jacob McDermott preceded him.
Mr. Hanley was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Drexel Hill, PA. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Drexel University; his Master of Arts Degree in Human Resources from St. Francis University and his professional insurance designation- Chartered Life Underwriter from the American College.
Mr. Hanley was active in many community organizations having served on the Board of Directors of United Mental Health, Inc.; the Pittsburgh Metropolitan YMCA where he was chairman of the Human Resources Committee and served as the City wide Chairperson for the Y's Partner-with-Youth annual fund raising campaign for several years; the Allegheny Valley YMCA and was chairperson of the Membership Committee. He also served on the Alumni Advisory Committee for St. Francis University's Graduate School of Human Resources and was the former Vice President of the North Hills Amateur Ice Hockey League. In addition he served as a business advisor to Carnegie Mellon University's chapter of the International Association of Students in Economics and Business Management. He was a member of the former Pennsylvania Blue Shield Corporation and served on the Board's Employee Benefits and Members Nomination Committees. In addition, he served as the state chairperson for Blue Shields subscriber advisory council and was the chairperson of the former Pittsburgh personnel associate's international section.
Mr. Hanley was retired from Allegheny Ludlum Corporation and was later a human resources consultant for Michael Baker Corporation.
Mr. Hanley served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He enjoyed tennis, gardening and travel. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 27 at 11 AM at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1965 Ferguson Rd. Friends will be received from 2-5 PM on Sunday, July 26, at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home., 1032 Perry Hwy.
In lieu of flowers the family request contributions may be made to the North Hills Community Outreach Center, 1975 Ferguson Rd., Allison Park, PA 15101-3235
