George Michael James was born June 24, 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA. He went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2023 with family by his side. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born to Michael and Mary James in Pittsburgh, PA. George was the beloved husband to the late Lee James (Kristakis). Supportive and loving father of Kathryn Dickson (Bruce) (Deceased Kevin), Christine Guthrie (Mike), Constance Dyer (Ben), George James (Lisa), and the late Michael James (Lisa). He was an attentive and active grandfather to Michael Guthrie (Noelle), Nicholas Schultz (Stephanie), Christine Burk (John), Alexandria Guthrie, Stephanie Spagnola (Brett), Benjamin Dyer, Jaqueline James, Brittney Guthrie, Megan Frysinger (Nick), Marissa James, Elizabeth James, and Colby James. A proud great grandfather to Kevin Fitzgerald Schultz, Gabriella Lee Guthrie, Matteo Louis Spagnola, Anthony Amedeo Guthrie, Josie Rose Schultz, and Francis Nicholas Frysinger. He was preceded in death by his dear brother the late Harry (Elaine) James.
He was a devoted, lifelong member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, where he will be missed by many in the church community. George and his late wife Lee were active participants and organizers in a book club with close friends for over 45 years which still continues today. He was a dedicated and proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps, and a long time member of the Masons Corinthian Lodge. He was a graduate of University of Pittsburgh, a real estate broker, and a home builder for many years until his retirement in 2006. George will always be remembered for his never ending energy, his enthusiasm for friends and family, his caring neighbors that always brought him treats and cards, and his dog Zoe that was his sidekick and meant so much to him. George and his dear friend Stacy danced together at his 21st birthday party, and then again in their 80s. They continued to dance and laugh together and had great joy in each other's company. He was an avid sports fan, but a true Steelers fan and will forever be rooting for them.
A visitation for George will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15237. A parastas will take place on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 7:00 PM, 1032 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15237. A 2nd visitation will occur Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson, Pittsburgh, Pa 15228. An Orthodox Funeral Service will occur Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 123 Gilkeson Road, Pittsburgh, Pa 15228. Burial to follow at Homewood Cemetery with Military Honors.
