Dorothy Katherine Rossi was peacefully called to the Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2022. She was the beloved wife of forty-nine years to the late Charles James Rossi, and loving Mother to Raymond Rossi, Karen Fatherree, Janet Sciotto (Robert), Diane Lippello (Thomas), Michelle Rossi (Richard Gloyer), and John Rossi. She was the cherished and treasured grandmother of eleven grandchildren: Valerie Boccardi (Joseph), Robin Sciotto (Gabriel Barki), Matthew Sciotto (Lauren), Richard Fatherree (Marie), Kelly Fatherree, Thomas Lippello (Rachel), Lauren Lippello, Jennifer Lippello, Michael LaButis (Anne), Rebecca LaButis, and Roman Rossi. She also leaves seven loving great grandchildren: Torrin Fatherree Bianchi, Lorenzo and Viviana Barki, Nicky Joe Boccardi, Preslee and Jude Sciotto, and Leah LaButis. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Katherine (Zinitz) Lewandowski, and a brother Raymond Lane (Amelia) of Oregon.
Dorothy graduated from Braddock High School, and Duff’s Iron City Business Institute. As a young woman she worked for Westinghouse Corporation, and during World War II was a member of the American Red Cross Volunteer Nurse’s Aide Corps. She also was employed by the Allegheny County Court System and later worked as a bookkeeper for the Highland Country Club.
Our mom was blessed to live a full and happy life. She and her late husband were involved in many activities together including card club and bowling leagues. They had many good friends and loved to travel together with them. Their adventures took them to Italy, Spain, Poland, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, Florida, and Arizona. Mom also loved her home and was an impeccable housekeeper and gardener. She especially loved decorating and hosting family and friends for the holidays. She loved to cook, bake, and treat her family to many memorable gatherings around her dining room table. Her specialty was spaghetti and meatballs, as well as her delicious poppy seed and nut breads.
Mom was devout in her Catholic faith, love, and commitment to her church, St. Sebastian Parish. She was a parishioner for over forty years and served as a Eucharistic Minister, visiting and administering Communion to the sick and elderly members of the St. Sebastian community. She was also a member of St. Sebastian’s Ladies of Charity.
In recent years she lived at Concordia of Cranberry and Vincentian Home. At Concordia, she became an avid canvas painter where she created numerous personal works of art that were proudly displayed in her room. She also loved word search puzzles, playing bingo, participating in sing-a-longs, and playing 500 Rummy. She had a competitive nature and always seemed to have the aces in her hand!
Our mom was the most wonderful and precious mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to our family. She was selfless, kind, caring, and loving to everyone she came in contact with. Mom was a ray of sunshine who always put her family first. The greatest gift she and our father gave to their children was the gift of time and sharing their lives with them. She will be missed more than words can express. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and memories of her family, friends, and those who knew her. We will continue to celebrate her long and happy life.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Concordia of Cranberry and the Vincentian Home for the special care provided to our mom and our family over the past eight years.
Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Township. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Church on Friday at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Forest Hills.
The family requests masks to be worn during visitation and mass service.
