Valencia—Daniel Berle Douglass, aged 92, passed away on May 6, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Dan was born on December 26, 1931, to Simeon Archibald Douglass and Jessie Annette (Blose) Douglass. He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Theora Annetta Grada, James Douglass, Rowine L. Douglass, Archie Eugene Douglass, Clara Donna DeJohn, and Rodney Douglass.
Dan is survived by a wife, Marjorie (née Lowe), four children and their spouses: Sandy and Rick Hughey, Danny and Karen Douglass, Rachel and Kevin Haser, and Jeff and Patty Douglass. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Rich and Natelle Hughey, Danielle and Adam Corey, Jimmy Alexander, Kevin and Noelle Haser, and Eric and Katie Haser. He also leaves behind four loving great grandchildren, Serena and Abigail Hughey, and Carter and Jaxon Haser.
Dan is a veteran of the Korean War. He was wounded in combat and earned medal(s), including the purple heart. After his service in the army, he served as a police officer in Pittsburgh starting in 1962.
Even after retirement, he continued to protect and serve. Until health issues interfered in the last couple of years, he still jumped in to help family and friends with building projects and mission trips. The youth at his church fondly recalled his participation in mission trips to help people fix their homes in a small town in West Virginia.
His family finds comfort in knowing that he is with his parents and siblings once more and no longer in pain. Though we will miss him, we know he will live on through us following the examples he set of service and wit and that we will all be together again.
Friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM at the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry Hwy Pittsburgh PA 15237. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday May 14, 2024, at 12PM in the funeral home chapel followed by a procession led by the Pittsburgh Police and the Patriot Guard Riders to the Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors by the United States Army and Post 820 American Legion.
