Catherine (Topper) Hunter, age 99 years of McCandless Township, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021. She was the loving wife of the late William Winfield Hunter JR; devoted mother of W. James Hunter and his wife Marjorie of Franklin Park, Kathleen L. Warner and her husband Vincent of Canton, OH and Deborah J. Hunter of Franklin Park and her husband the late John Moore; proud Grandmother of Ian Hunter Moore of Franklin Park; sister, Dorothy (Kost) Saltmar of Houston, TX. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Daughter of the late George and Mabel Topper and raised by her aunt, Jean (Topper) Powers of Chicago. She enjoyed many summers at her favorite spot in the world, Eagle Springs Lake in Wisconsin.
During World War II, she volunteered for the Red Cross in Pittsburgh. Catherine graduated from Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University) on D-Day, June 6, 1944 with her Bachelor's degree in Nutrition. She worked as a menu designer for Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago. Later, her husband's work relocated them to Mexico, San Francisco, and Denver before they retired back home to Pittsburgh. She was known for her cooking, gardening, sewing skills, and other creative endeavors. She enjoyed traveling the world in retirement with her husband and other Dravo Seniors.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her brothers, George and Ralph Topper.
In accordance with her wishes services will be private.
