Carl F. Sinn III, 73, of Ross Township, passed on Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was the loving son of the late Alma M. Sinn and the late Carl F. Sinn, Jr.; beloved father of Shawn F. Sinn (wife Sheila, her son Sean, and her daughter Samantha); beloved brother of Carolyn A. Lorenzetti (husband Jim); and proud uncle of Lisa Carroll (husband Dan), and Jim Lorenzetti (wife Heather).
After finishing high school, Carl served in the United States Air Force and was stationed primarily in Guam during the Vietnam War. He was very proud to serve his country, and achieved the rank of Sergeant during his tour of duty.
Following the military service, he married Barbara Bentel and lived in beautiful Portland, Oregon. During his 6 year marriage, he welcomed a bouncing baby boy named Shawn. From Oregon, he returned as a single man to the Pittsburgh area and soon began his career at Mine Safety Appliances (MSA).
Following the passing of his father, Carl devoted his life to living with, and caring for, his Mother Alma Sinn. During that time, and upon his well-deserved retirement from MSA, Carl became a faithful and passionate volunteer for the food bank at Riverview Presbyterian Church, putting in many hours collecting and distributing food to those in need.
Carl’s other passion was hunting and fishing. He loved to tow his boat to the nearest lake, seek a favorite spot, either by himself or with a special friend, and spend hours just fishin’. As he developed his skills, he participated in several fishing contests with friends. He became very competitive in these contests, and usually was in contention for the winning trophy. He delighted in both bow and rifle hunting. After a successful hunt, He always insisted that nothing go to waste, even the skin, which he used to make leather coats or handbags for family members. Eventually he joined the Millvale Sportsman Club, where he liked honing his shooting skills, and where he was heavily active with the pistol range (even helped build the new one), the archery range, the 3d course, the range, and the lake.
Even though he was an avid hunter, Carl routinely set up a feeding station in his backyard for deer and small animals. He recorded the late night activities of these animals and recorded some amazing footage of their escapades. The bottom line is that he loved and cared for all creatures!
The H. P. Brandt Funeral Home 1032 Perry Hwy, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, is in charge of final arrangements. There will be no visitation due to the current Covid environment. Instead, there will be a burial service with military honors at United Cemeteries on Cemetery Lane. In addition, the family will also prepare a virtual memorial service in the next few weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Riverview Presbyterian Church Food Bank, 3505 Perrysville Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15214. Condolences may be offered at:
