After three days of labor, Bonnie Lee Schranner, was delivered on October 31, 1949. She was the first of six children born to Vera Anne and William Schranner. She was a wonderful wife, big sister, and aunt and was dearly loved. Our beloved Bonnie passed away suddenly on Sept 21, 2024, at Vincentian Nursing Home.
Bonnie graduated from Mount Alvernia High School in 1967, and then attended St. Margaret's Nursing School. She became a labor and delivery nurse and loved it. While working full time, she also attended Slippery Rock College and earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing. While working at St. Margarets, she met her future husband, Dan Hagan. When St Margarets closed their Obstetrics department, Bonnie obtained a job at West Penn Hospital.
Bonnie loved helping to deliver babies, but at this point, she was offered a position in Hawaii helping to set up and work on a Maternal-Fetal Intensive Care Unit. In 1991, they moved to Lubbock, Texas where Bonnie helped set up a similar unit. She also earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University Health Science Center Library of The Health Sciences”. They then moved to San Antonio and stayed for over 20 years. Here her position was” Continuing Education Director at San Antonia University Health System.” Bonnie co-authored several Nursing textbooks, she also had articles published in “The Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing.” In 2013, she coauthored ‘Innovative Approaches to Reducing Nurses’ Distractions During Medication Administration”. In this position, she also taught several Nursing classes and planned Nursing conferences. Bonnie and Dan retired in 2016 and moved back to Pittsburgh to be closer to family.
Bonnie was also a proud cat momma of two cats, Gomez and Pugsley. She always referred to them as her boys! Bonnie loved to read, shop, go on cruises, cook, and spend time with family and friends. Bonnie was loving, generous, funny and a little stubborn.
Bonnie was predeceased by her parents Vera Anne and William, her three brothers Billy, Jim, and Jerry, and her young nephew, Stephen. She is survived by husband Dan (of 44 years), her sisters, Beth Stroyne and Susan Bednar, 3 nieces, 2 nephews, and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life visitation on October 4, 2024 from 5PM to 7PM. A blessing service will take place at 7PM in the funeral home chapel.
