Bernard “Bernie” Young, 83, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on January 11, 2023. He was born to the late Marcus and Lela Young on August 17, 1939, in Canonsburg, PA. Bernie is preceded in death by his son, Michael Anthony Young and his sister, Beverly Margarum.
Bernie was a proud Army veteran who served his country from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. He then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Finance from Robert Morris University and established a career in the finance and banking field. After retiring, Bernie enjoyed working part time at Heinz Field and H.P. Brandt Funeral Home. Bernie was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan; he enjoyed selling and buying at local flea markets to add to his extensive sports memorabilia collection. Bernie also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Most importantly, Bernie will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be truly missed.
Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Ann Young; his children, Kelly Young, David (Heather) Young, and Erin Engelhard; stepchildren, Peggy Haslett, William McKee, and Kathy McKee; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Rosalie Watson and brother, Terry (Bonnie) Young; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, from 4pm-7pm at H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, 1032 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15237. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11am at St. Ursula Church, 3937 Kirk Ave, Allison Park, PA 15101. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment to follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
