Age 88, of the North Hills, Andrew passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford, PA. Dr. Dekker was born in Holland (1927) and came to the United States with his parents at age 11. Dr. Dekker graduated from Cornell University in 1950. In 1958 he graduated from the State University of Groningen Medical School, the Netherlands. He trained in Pathology at the Brigham-Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA from 1959-1963. He was employed for thirty years as Staff Pathologist at UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital. He retired in 1993 as an Emeritus Professor of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh. He has written more than 95 scientific papers. His main interest included liver and endocrine gland pathology. He was also for many years in charge of the Cytology Laboratory at Presbyterian University Hospital . He served in the United States Army and received a WW II Victory Medal. On retirement Dr. Dekker’s activities included extensive reading especially history, travel, contract bridge, ball room dancing and walking. He was a resident of the North Hills for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife Nel of Allison Park, PA; son Martin Dekker and his wife Patricia of Allison Park and their children Courtney and Caitlin; son Tom Dekker and his wife Shelley of Durham NC and their children Eliza and Anneke; daughter Carolyn Lech and her husband Christopher of Simsbury, CT and their children Natalie, Allyson and Andrew; his brother Marcel Dekker and his wife Harriett of Greenwich, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents Maurits and Rozetta Dekker of Greenwich, CT and his sister Elly Wynberg and her husband Hans of the Netherlands. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 12, 2016 in the H.P. Brandt Funeral Home, Inc., 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Twp., 412-364-4444.
