February 15, 2023, as the sun was to rise on another day, Thomas, J. “Tommy” Aucoin, Sr. closed his eyes to this earthly life, and gained his promise of eternal peace and rest. Tommy passed one month after his 67th birthday.
Thomas, lovingly known as Tommy or Big Tommy, was born in New Orleans to the late Carroll Aucoin, Sr. and the Myrt Bourgeois Aucoin and was the oldest of four children born to that union. Tommy married Wanda Gaudet in June of 1975. Their marriage lasted nearly 48 years, and saw the birth of their son, Thomas Aucoin, Jr., two precious grandchildren, Bruce and Kila, and a great-grandson, Braxton.
Tommy loved his family, his friends, and his job. A longstanding and loyal employee of Central Boat Rentals, Tommy was loved and looked to for his knowledge and expertise in his field. He was with the company for over 30 years and absolutely loved his work family. Outside of his career, Tommy spending time with his family, doing mechanic work with his grandson, having coffee with friends, cooking, and relaxing to a good TV show.
We will miss him dearly, but know that he is not gone, only gone on before us. He is reunited with his beloved son, Lil Tommy, as well as with all who have gone on before him. May he rest in peace.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend of 48 years, Wanda Gaudet Aucoin; his grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Bruce Aucoin and Kila Stansbury; a much loved great-grandson, Braxton Gachassin; his sister and brothers, Kim Haber (Larry), Timmy Aucoin (Cindy), and Carroll “PeeWee” Aucoin, Jr. (Connie); his God children, Charlotte Berteau, Brett Landry and Abbie Duplessis; his mother-in-law, Emelda Landry; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas “Lil Tommy” Aucoin, Jr.; his father-in-law, Aubrey “Buddy” Gaudet; his step-father-in-law, Kirby Landry; two brothers-in-law, Scott Landry and Marshall Bourgeois, Sr.; and his nephews, Marshall Bourgeois, Jr.
In keeping with Tommy’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. His family will announce a memorial service to celebrate his life at a later date.
