Affectionately known as Grandmère to all who loved her, she spread her charming and pleasant spirit with each embrace and conversation. Grandmère adored her family with her whole heart and held them high on a pedestal - her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her whole world. She often spoke of them with the biggest smile and with the greatest pride a grandmother could have. Grandmère was so proud to be a wife, mother, and grandmother - it was her greatest mission, and she conquered it with grace and gratitude.
A nurturing and loving wife, Grandmère considered it a blessing and privilege to spend her time with her best friend and doting husband of 61 years, Alvin. She loved to take care of him and did so with great devotion. She loved to go dancing when Alvin would go play Cajun music, and together they enjoyed visiting with friends and family as well as spending time on their camp.
Grandmère often put her needs aside and focused on the needs of others - if they needed something - she found a way to get it for them. She loved to see others smile and made sure that she spoiled those whom she treasured because it made her happy. Grandmère was happiest when able to be with those she loved, whether it was for the holidays, a quick or long visit, or a crawfish boil. A true perfectionist, Grandmère took great pride in her home and its immaculate presentation. Around the house, you could often find her working in her flowerbeds, washing her cement to maintain its pristine condition, or cooking something delicious on her outside stove. She was so proud of her treasured collection of pictures of family and friends which graced almost every surface of her home.
Grandmère was very devout in her faith. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and looked forward to watching mass and saying her rosary each day.
Grandmère leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband Alvin Landry, Sr. of Pierre Part; her daughter, Alisa Landry Blanchard and husband Don Blanchard, Jr. of Napoleonville; her son, Alvin “JR” Landry, Jr. and wife Teresa Maurin Landry of Gonzales; grandchildren, Jennifer Blanchard Aucoin and husband Jonathan Aucoin of Donaldsonville; Donny Blanchard, III of Napoleonville, and Jessica and Grace Landry of Gonzales. Grandmère is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Jack and Mary Elizabeth Aucoin. She leaves behind her beloved sister Margaret Ackman (Daniel) and brother Norbert Templet (Brenda). She is also survived by her many in-laws: Telezia Landry, Theresa Landry, Veronica Landry, Dora Landry, Johnny Landry (Marlene) as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Grandmère will be lovingly remembered by her dear neighbor and friend Beverly Mabile. The family would like to send many thanks to Mrs. Bev for her love and care.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anita Rivere Templet and Loveless Templet; son, John Paul Landry; goddaughter, Tanya Templet; and niece, Amy Rose Landry.
To know her was to love her. Grandmère will live on in our hearts forever. We will never forget her sense of humor and lively spirit. She is our sunshine.
